Hot Roll Laminator

SKU:
HL-200

Product Overview

Voltage & Heating

The HL-200 can be built in a variety of voltage and heating configurations to fit your exact needs.  Typically the unit is built with a heated steel or aluminum top roll and a non-heated rubber bottom roll.  Non-typical builds include reversing that setup with a heated roll on the bottom and a non-heated roll on the top.  We also offer a dual heated choice which heats both of the top and bottom substrates at the laminaination nip point.  This is especially useful for thick or poor heat transfer substrates.

Top Roll

The top roll of the HL-200 can be configured with four different roll styles.  The first three selections can be set up either as heated or non-heated versions.  The fourth selection is only a non-heated version.  Select one of these types for the top roll:

  • Aluminum:  Polished surface finish, Hard Coat Anodized, Teflon sealed for ease of cleaning
  • Steel:  Chrome plated finish, ground to a polish of 8 RMS
  • Thermally Conductive Rubber:  Aluminum core with 1/8" (3.1 mm) thick wrap of 80 durometer, thermally conductive, silicone rubber (400°F / 204°C)
  • 80 Durometer Silicone Rubber:  Aluminum core with 3/8" (9.5 mm) thick wrap of 80 durometer silicone rubber

Bottom Roll

The bottom roll of the HL-200 can be configured with four different roll styles.  The first three selections can be set up either as heated or non-heated versions.  The fourth selection is only a non-heated version.  Select one of these types for the bottom roll:

  • Aluminum:  Polished surface finish, Hard Coat Anodized, Teflon sealed for ease of cleaning
  • Steel:  Chrome plated finish, ground to a polish of 8 RMS
  • Thermally Conductive Rubber:  Aluminum core with 1/8" (3.1 mm) thick wrap of 80 durometer, thermally conductive, silicone rubber (400°F / 204°C)
  • 80 Durometer Silicone Rubber:  Aluminum core with 3/8" (9.5 mm) thick wrap of 80 durometer silicone rubber

Piston

There are two piston types available for the HL-200.  The Standard piston type uses a 2" (51 mm) diameter cylinder and is a good choice for almost every type of lamination in the lab.  For a much stronger lamiantion, select the Large piston type for a laminating pressure four times the power of the Standard type.  The Larger piston uses a 4" (102 mm) diameter cylinder to achieve this added power.  Each piston type can be supplied with Gap Adjusters offering the ability to gap the nip point.  Gap Adjusters are not required, but can be very helpful when working with thick substrates, such as rubber or foam products or any rigid material with a thickness beyond typical films, foils and papers.  Please note, these Gap Adjusters are simple devices and are meant to be used as a "coarse" adjustment and are not eqivalent to a "micrometer" level of precision adjustment.

Accessories

Add any or all of these optional accessories to the HL-200 for convenience and better control:

  • Brake Unwind:  This device replaces the standard simple 1" pipe unwind shaft with a 3" core unwind shaft.  The solid, 3" diameter core shaft includes a spring loaded core locking mechanism and a manually adjustable friction brake, which adds drag to the unwind substrate.
  • Spur Gears:  In the standard setup, the top roll turns due to contact with a substrate and pressure with the driven bottom roll.  For certain material choices, this scenario allows a slight bit of slipping of the top substate with respect to the bottom substrate.  Adding a pair of spur gears to the top and bottom rolls ensures that the top roll turns exactly at the same rotational rate as the bottom roll.  Spur Gears help keep two substrates in direct aligniment with each other, creating a more accurate sample.
  • Foot Pedal:  Add a foot pedal to the system for safety and convenience.  Often times it's a bit of a difficult process to get smooth, bubble and wrinkle-free laminations.  Having the foot pedal to start and stop the motion of the laminator can be very helpful, freeing up both hands to create a more accurate lamination.
  • Higher Temperature Modification:  With this option, the HL-200 is built using a higher wattage heating element.  This modification also upgrades the contact points on the frame and brearings to address the increassed heat range.  This modification allows the HL-200 to heat well above the standard unit's capability of 400°F (204°C), raising that limit to 700°F (371°C).  For safety reasons, please note that the HL-200, with this added modification, should not run for extended periods of time at the higher temperatures.
  • Standard Cart:  The standard cart is a versatile accessory designed for convenience and mobility in conjunction with the hot laminator. Crafted from durable 80/20 material, this movable cart serves as a practical platform for securely housing the hot laminator. The cart's design allows for easy relocation of the hot laminator within a workspace, providing users with flexibility and efficiency in their operations. With its sturdy build and mobility features, the standard cart enhances the overall functionality of the hot laminator, making it a valuable accessory for various industrial or laboratory settings.
